While fishing 20 miles off the coast of New York, a Long Island man fishing for tuna accidentally hooked his legs with his fishing hook. Needing immediate assistance, Officer Parmenter, who was fishing nearby on his day off, heard the distress call and rushed to the scene to find the man bleeding from both legs. Parmenter applied tourniquets to stop the bleeding, then contacted the Coast Guard.
A helicopter met the boat and the injured man was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.
